Description
This is a beautiful unique ceramic plate decorated with multiple beadings and it is a good example of the artists skill to use colours and fine iridescent glaze dots and details on the surface of the plate. Kaipiainen introduced ceramic beads to his art in the 60s' and the surface of the object became more important for his art. There is a black rim around the plate and white glaze continues on the back base. The wall mounting wire attached.
Signed by Birger Kaipiainen Arabia.
Birger Kaipiainen (1915-1988) was a master of decorative ceramics. He was especially known for his rich and colorful ornamental dishes, featuring fruits, women, butterflies, flowers, birds etc. usually decorated with beads. Kaipiainen was the leading man in ceramics in mid century Finland. He had a long career as a designer for Arabia Oy, where his artistic ability flourished, as he was given more and more freedoms. As his career went on and he was able to freely express his art, his style became more surreal compared to his early work. Today Kaipiainen is still one of the most celebrated Finnish designers. His recognitions include the Grand Prix award at Milano Di Triennale 1951. -
