Description
A large Amish quilt of center diamond pattern made from a red, green and light blue fine wool and cotton blend and backed by chambray cotton panel. The center diamond in the square pattern is supplemented with four smaller square corners, rendering its bold iconic aesthetic. The separated surface areas feature subtle pierced stitches in various designs including a large opening floral motif with corner baskets in the center, sunflowers on the corners, scrolling garlands in the green borders and diamond quilting on the smaller pink squares. These folky details contrast interestingly with the overall bold nature of the construction pattern. The quilt was made in Amish Lancaster County in Pennsylvania circa 1900. It somehow strikes the viewer as a form of modern and abstract art
Compared this quilt with another one we have on offer (LU) that was used to be in the collection of International Quilt Museum at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
