Moss creates pieces with the intent to “bring the wild energy of nature into our living space to be a remembrance and meditation on our personal connection to the wilderness”. His ceramic structures often include a black concrete which binds twigs or stones in a manner that is at once highly organized and yet has qualities that are spontaneous and random. His ultimate goal is to create work that does not appear as pottery, rather that looks “like you stumbled upon it while crossing a stream and it becomes an exciting discovery to lift up and carry home.” From a formal perspective Moss's work has much akin with modern art and abstraction.

Don Moss has a background in product design and commercial graphics and holds a degree in Industrial Design from Syracuse University. For the last 20 years, Moss has been making furniture and sculpture with natural materials in a rustic vein and has found a dedicated audience in New York and Connecticut. He has been a regular exhibitor at the Adirondack Museum furniture show and his work has also been shown at the Wharton Esherick Museum. Publications include CT House & Garden Magazine and Lark Books “500 Tables”.
