Description
Antique Belle Époque gilt bronze mounted parquetry guéridon
French, Early 20th Century
Height 75cm, diameter 73cm
A superb example of early 20th century craftsmanship, this refined guéridon was produced during the flourishing Belle Époque period.
At its centre, the circular tabletop is beautifully adorned with delicately inlaid trellis-patterned panel forms the focal point, its outer border left intentionally plain to highlight the intricate marquetry. The apron beneath is similarly decorated and features a rectangular centre panel outlined with fine brass stringing. This section is further embellished with a finely cast gilt bronze mount: a classical female bust flanked by cornucopias brimming with flowers and fruit, accompanied by scrolling foliage. This striking design is repeated on all four sides of the frieze, one of which discreetly houses a hidden drawer.
The table stands on four slender cabriole legs, each decorated with ornate gilt bronze mounts. The knees are adorned with foliage detailing, while the feet are finished with bold lion-paw sabots. Connecting the legs are four elegant stretchers that join at a central decorative basket, finely crafted from pierced gilt bronze. Echoing the design of the tabletop, the centre of this basket features matching trellis marquetry, providing visual harmony throughout the piece.
Blending decorative charm with functional elegance, this superb guéridon is a statement piece that would enhance both period and contemporary interiors. -
