Homeric sterling soft cheese scoop. Made by George W. Shiebler & Co. in New York, ca 1890. Tubular gilt blade. Handle has engraved stylized ornament. Acid-etched Classical profiles on terminal and mount.

A fine example of the “salvaged” look based on the archaeological excavations at Pompeii and Herculaneum. Irregular with “broken off” bits and allover spot hammering. Handle twisted to suggest the destructive power of hot ash and falling masonry.

Fully marked including maker’s stamp. Very good condition.
