Ancient Roman Carved Marble Roundel

Description
Depicting a robed man holding a scroll in a circular frame, the hairstyle recalls that Emperor Gallienus; rough technique is compatible with the late Third Century A.D. No sign of recutting. Similar roundel is in the collection the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Examined by John Herrmann, Curator of Classical Art, Emeritus at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Probably from a mausoleum. Purchased in Southern California.
