Sainte-Radegonde French Art Deco Ceramic Vase with Geometric Design
France, circa 1930s
This rare and visually striking French Art Deco vase is attributed to the Sainte-Radegonde ceramics workshop, known for its distinctive modernist forms and bold decorative motifs during the interwar period. Bearing the stylized SR monogram and stamped “FRANCE,” this piece is an authentic example of the studio’s limited production output — now increasingly sought after by collectors of fine French Art Deco.
The vase’s sculptural form is defined by crisp vertical ridges and an elegant flared, multi-lobed rim that enhances its architectural presence. The surface is adorned with a hand-applied pattern of stylized diamonds and overlapping crescents in teal, chocolate brown, and ivory, outlined in fine black — a graphic and rhythmic composition that exemplifies the Art Deco fascination with geometry, symmetry, and bold color contrast.
The glaze has a soft, parchment-like texture, giving the piece an understated sheen that complements the richness of the painted decoration. This vase is not merely decorative — it is a finely executed ceramic sculpture that speaks to the fusion of artistry and design central to the Art Deco ethos. Condition: Excellent condition for its age, with only minimal signs of wear at the rim consistent with age and use. No cracks or restoration.
Sainte-Radegonde was known for its Art Deco and Mid-Century ceramic vases and decorative wares, often with vibrant glazes or modernist forms. While not as widely documented as Longwy or Primavera, their works have been gaining more recognition among collectors for their strong design and quality.
The impressed “8” likely refers to a model or form number.
This piece would make a sophisticated addition to any Art Deco interior, console display, or ceramic collection, especially for connoisseurs of French modernist design.
