Description
Pair of antique German painted porcelain cachepots by Meissen
German, Early 20th Century
Height 16cm, diameter 17cm
A striking pair of early 20th century porcelain cachepots by Meissen, these decorative vessels are both practical and elegant. Traditionally used to disguise plain plant containers, cachepots enhance interiors with their ornamental appeal.
Finished in a rare and vivid yellow ground, these pieces capture attention, lending a bold splash of colour to any setting. Each cachepot is richly decorated on the front with hand-painted cartouches portraying romantic Rococo scenes - lovers in pastoral landscapes, framed by classical ruins and wooded backgrounds.
The reverse of each piece features lush polychrome floral compositions, where peonies and other blossoms in shades of pink, yellow, and blue burst forth in full bloom. Ornate gilt borders frame all the painted elements, with additional gilding accentuating the rims, bases, and edges for a luxurious finish.
The detachable porcelain stands are no less detailed, with interior surfaces also painted with delicate floral motifs, reflecting the same high level of artistry and refinement found throughout.
The undersides of the planters and bases is signed with the blue crossed swords mark for Meissen.
Showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship of Meissen’s renowned artisans, this beautifully coordinated pair offers a sophisticated decorative touch - perfect for collectors or as a statement piece in a classic or eclectic interior.
