Description
Carpet, Czechoslovakia, 1930s
Tufted wool.
133 1/2 x 103 in. (339 x 261.5 cm)
This striking carpet design, with its biomorphic forms evocative of Jean Arp, Alexander Calder and Isamu Noguchi, was most likely produced in Czechoslovakia during the late 1930s. Unfortunately, it remains unattributed, though it displays similarities to the contemporary work of Antonín Kybal, and that of the Krasna jizba Druzstevni prace and Artel, two collectives with which Kybal was associated. -
