Description
Surface dimension and depth ground elegant curving lines and a waterfall edge in this gracefully majestic shou sugi ban-style console. The ebony finish and wirebrush textured surface evokes the Japanese wood burning technique, shou sugi ban or yakisugi. Crafted from a solid beam of sustainably harvested Ponderosa Pine, the design boldly enunciates the beauty of the beams as the eye is led across and over the distinctive terrain. The carving-play and tonal staining create high and low points that catch light and shadow to dramatic effect. This streamlined form lends itself to varying environments, imparting character and impact while anchoring a space - becoming a true heirloom.
Our skilled artisans carefully shape and hand work the timber, notching and carving each indent and plane. The inherent knots and cracks of the wood species are retained and enhanced. This careful artistry creates an impactful perimeter within a sophisticated design that enhances residential, hospitality, or corporate environments in this contract-grade piece. The unique finish is inspired by Shou Sugi Ban, a traditional Japanese wood preservation technique that involves charring the surface of wood to enhance its durability, weather resistance, and aesthetic appeal. This process creates a distinctive textured finish, ranging from a deep blackened surface to a subtle char, highlighting the natural grain.
At Pfeifer Studio, we've taken a modern spin on this time-honored method. Our proprietary process brings the burned-in beauty without the heat - wire-brushed to reveal the grain, and finished with a durable waterborne lacquer that brings out every charred detail. The result? All the character of Shou Sugi Ban, with a finish fit for interiors that don't play with fire.
Naturally Unique | This style is built from a solid log of wood. Knots, cracks, coloration and grain pattern will vary by piece. Bowties may be present. These attributes amplify the organic origins - enhancing the proportions, emphasizing the lines, and imparting character. Each piece is one-of-a-kind and may vary from the images as shown. This is the pedigree of our solid wood furniture.

CERTIFIED SUSTAINABLE WOOD SOURCING
The Ponderosa Pine used to create this furniture design is sourced in the Jemez Mountains and The Santa Fe National Forest in New Mexico, and is certified as sustainably harvested by Source Verified Good Wood®, an independent third-party organization with a mission to promote sustainability, responsible forest management, and the health of local ecosystems.
SPECIFICATIONS
Ponderosa Pine [Source Verified Good Wood®} - Harvested primarily in the mountains of Northern New Mexico, the wood is seasoned for several months in a solar kiln and allowed to develop organic cracks and separations which occur naturally as the wood dries and shrinks. Time may accentuate these separations, or generate new ones. This movement is considered inherent to the natural beauty of the design.
