A welcoming pair of 19th century French bergere chairs, made in the Directoire taste with influences of Louis XVI for timeless appeal. The pair are characterized by a gorgeous cut velvet of coral and green floral pattern on a cream background that is still quite vibrant in the gently worn condition. These armchairs are outlined by a carved frame that is finished in wonderfully preserved ivory paint accented by traces of blue pigment in the rosettes and elsewhere. Tapering legs, hallmarks of the classic Louis XVI design, are incorporated into the chair’s front, with lovely saber legs emerging from the back.
