This custom storage chest doubles as a coffee table. The simple form highlights the dynamic grain patterns of the spalted maple - inside and out. Among the details of this otherwise spare chest include the recessed handles at each end and finger purchases for opening the lid. The lid utilizes a brass continuous hinge and a solid brass stay to hold it in the open position.
The chest/table is constructed using thick, shop-cut veneer I mill myself from rough lumber. It is laminated onto a stable Baltic birch substrate. This process can be replicated using many different woods; size and finish are also customizable. Additional trays and dividers for managing storage are also possible.
