Description
Fabergé-inspired green enamel and silver-gilt picture frame
Continental, 20th Century
Frame: Height 8.5cm, width 8cm, depth 1cm/ 4cm (open)
Box: Height 5.5cm, width 12.5cm, depth 12.5cm
This exquisite picture frame is designed in the lavish style of Fabergé, the famed Russian jewellery firm celebrated for its imperial commissions and extraordinary craftsmanship.
The arched frame features vibrant green enamel, arranged in radiant sunburst patterns that draw attention to the oval portrait aperture at its centre. Encircling the window is a silver-gilt bezel, while the enamel surface is adorned with delicate garlands, laurel sprigs, and a ribbon-tied bow — all hallmarks of Fabergé’s elegant neoclassical aesthetic.
Enhancing the luxurious design, suspended swags and red cabochon mounts provide additional depth and richness. The frame’s detailed silver border completes the composition with a refined sense of grandeur. At the rear, a scrolling strut stand offers sturdy support, accompanied by faux maker’s marks styled after traditional Russian insignia.
Presented within a later Fabergé-inspired pale wood box lined with cream silk and velvet (not original to the frame), this piece includes a printed paper photograph of Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna of Russia.
A stunning homage to Russian decorative artistry, this frame is a captivating addition for any collector of fine decorative arts and imperial-inspired objets d’art. -
