Mazda (France)

French
Mazda (France) was a well-known French lighting manufacturer active through much of the 20th century. Originally part of the Compagnie des Lampes, Mazda became recognized for its industrial-grade lighting fixtures that were especially popular in the 1950s and 1960s. The brand produced durable pendant lamps, wall lights, and task lamps, many of which are now highly collectible.

Mazda's designs often featured large spun aluminum or enamel shades in tones like gray, black, or blue. Fixtures were typically equipped with bakelite or porcelain sockets and robust hardware, including swivel arms and clamp bases. These utilitarian lamps—sometimes nicknamed “gamelle” or factory bowl lamps—were originally intended for industrial and street lighting but have since found a new life in residential and commercial interiors.

Mazda lighting is now prized for its clean lines, functionality, and timeless industrial aesthetic. Many vintage pieces are still in circulation, often rewired for modern use, and continue to appeal to those seeking authentic mid-century or minimalist design.
