Early 19th Century Swedish Secretary in Black with Painted Interior, circa 1810
-
Description
A beautifully patinated Swedish secretary desk dating from circa 1810–1830, crafted in solid pine and painted in a rich, aged black. The front of the piece features decorative horizontal fluting on all drawers and the drop-front writing surface, offering rhythm and texture to the otherwise clean, rectilinear silhouette.
The interior, painted in a soft white, creates a striking contrast and reveals a charming arrangement of nine drawers of varying sizes, each fitted with original wooden knobs, and a small central compartment with a hidden door. The lower portion contains two wide drawers with elegant brass handles. Notably, there are no keyholes or locks, as the piece was originally built without them.
Resting on shaped bracket feet and finished with traces of the natural wood showing through, this secretary is as functional as it is sculptural. A stunning, character-rich piece ideal for use in an entryway, study, or bedroom.
Desk: 29.5"H x 35"D
