Dutch 19th Century Carved Mahogany Transom
-
Description
Dimensions: 30 ¼” H x 45” W x 1 ⅜” D
A dramatic frame of carved mahogany found in the Netherlands, likely a 19th century architectural detail such as a transom above a doorway. This pierced window is without glass allowing one to fully appreciate the skilled carvings of talons punctuated with rosettes, closing around an unfilled oval cartouche at the center. The piece is symmetrical to mount vertically or horizontally as a decorative feature on the wall–or built in–as it was intended. Cleaned and polished with a paste wax.
