Early Vase with Leaf Decoration

Price Upon Request
  • Description
This molded low bowl is a fine example of early Art Pottery by Artus van Briggle.

This wide low piece, in soft matte pale green glaze, features decoration at the shoulder of clusters three overlapping spade-shaped leaves. The stem of the three leaves trail over the sharp edge of the shoulder and down the body of the bowl, forming a stylized ribbing: the thin raised vertical stem of the central leaf is framed on either side by the impressed stems of the leaves to either side.

The underside of this vase is inscribed with artist’s cipher, roman numeral indicating clay composition, and date.
