This rare pair of stools/side tables was produced by Nordiska Kompaniet in Sweden in the 1940s. Crafted from solid pine, the pieces have developed a beautiful natural patina over time. The design features a distinctive four-legged cross base and a circular top. While originally intended as stools, they also function beautifully as small side tables.
The production of Nordiska Kompaniet is closely connected to the work of Axel Einar Hjorth and David Rosén during this period. With his highly original strand of primitive modernism, they were able to combine a farmhouse simplicity with a functional, modernist idiom. Executed in simple materials such as pinewood and oak, the designs were particularly catered to furnishing the summer and leisure cottages of the Swedish customers at the time, therefore earning the name ‘Sportstugemobler'.
