Description
Florence Knoll’s enduring impact on Mid-Century Modern design is unmistakably reflected in this monumental, custom-designed dining table. A pioneering figure in interior architecture, Knoll founded the influential “Planning Unit,” reshaping both corporate and residential spaces for clients such as IBM and CBS. Her dedication to functional elegance defined a generation of design, resulting in an iconic collection of furniture—sofas, lounge chairs, tables, desks, and credenzas—each a testament to her modernist philosophy.
This exceptional two-piece credenza originates from a complete suite of custom Knoll furnishings, acquired from the estate of the original owners. Commissioned directly through Knoll, the piece exemplifies a sculptural sensibility reminiscent of Warren Platner’s humanist aesthetic. Its continuous, sweeping rounded edges are echoed by the curved platform base and accented with half-round recessed chrome pulls.
Designed to be displayed as a unified piece, the credenza measures an impressive 114" in length. With a fully finished back, it can be positioned freely within a room, serving as a striking visual anchor. The minimalist, inset black platform subtly elevates the piece while allowing the fine cabinetry and rich wood grain to take center stage. Function meets form with four spacious cabinets featuring adjustable shelving and six drawers, two of which include custom-fitted chrome organizers. Each section is equipped with a functioning lock and its original keys.
The credenza remains in original vintage condition, showing only minor wear consistent with age, as documented in the photos. All items undergo a comprehensive inspection and light servicing before leaving our facility; some of the shown surface wear may be further addressed. Also available from the same collection is a matching custom Knoll Dining Table, equally monumental and an ideal companion piece. -
