Set of Three Vintage Suroy Thread Spool Boxes
-
Description
A captivating trio of industrial relics from the golden age of French textile manufacturing. Produced for the legendary Esquermes factory founded by Alfred Thirez in 1853, these Suroy boxes embody the utilitarian elegance of the textile revolution in Loos, Nord France.
Crafted from heavy-weight vulcanised card in a seldom-seen dusty brown tone—with burnished aluminum framing and riveted seams—each box tells a story of durability and design purpose. Unlike their more common burnt red counterparts, this rare coloration adds distinct character, enhancing their collectible appeal. The classic Suroy Lion emblem appears anchoring their provenance and authenticity.
Originally designed to safeguard raw cotton threads for embroidery and sewing, the boxes feature robust side handles and interlocking construction, allowing them to stack securely. Whether as functional storage or sculptural décor, they bring heritage and warmth to any space. - More Information
