Antique Tiffany Victorian Classical Sterling Silver Rugby Flask

Description
Victorian sterling silver flask. Made by Tiffany & Co. in New York. Rectilinear with wavy top and bottom; cover hinged and cork-lined.
On front acid-etched depiction of a rugby game with the ball carrier breaking through a tackle. Male brawn on the playing field, probably inspired by Classical sculpture, such as the celebrated Roman marble wrestling group on view at the Uffizi in Florence.
On verso engraved interlaced script monogram and phrase: William P. Wesselhoeft M.D. / Boston Mass. U.S.A. / Reise um die Welt / 1893-4 / “Niemals voll niemals leer”. The German phrase translates as “Never full, never empty”.
Fully marked including maker’s stamp, pattern no. 7283, director’s letter T (1892-1902), and volume (1 3/4 gills). Very good condition.
