Description
This distinctive wall-mounted design is a quiet and elegant statement piece that can be placed in various environments. Effortlessly able to elevate an organised wardrobe, a minimalist bedroom, or a sleek modern hallway, this wall dressing table offers ample room for storage and a quiet place to get oneself ready for the day. Made by the Swedish brother duo Uno and Östen Kristiansson, the piece carries an honest design, quality materials, and masterful precision, all essential features of pieces from the mid-20th century Scandinavian era. In 1950, the elder sibling Uno Kristiansson founded Luxus, where, shortly after, Östen Kristiansson joined as a lead designer. Active in Sweden, the designer brothers were known for their clear design aesthetic, with their pieces highly sought-after to this day.
The gracefully floating mirror sheet amplifies natural light, thanks to its reflective surface, lending the impression of a larger, airier space. The structure of the vanity is constructed of oak veneer, with a grain pattern that has come out beautifully over time in a golden, sunkissed colour tone. Mounted on the upper frame lies the core of the dressing table, a simple rectangular mirror, supported by four curved hooks that grant the mirror its floating appearance. The parallel wooden slats running through the back of the piece are the real backbone in keeping the mirror in place. The different-sized drawers add visual interest, breaking the flat surface of the mirror while simultaneously complementing the geometric composition. The large square drawer on the far right is accompanied by two smaller versions, together forming a unified side. The left side of the piece is composed of two rectangular drawers, providing enough space for larger belongings, combining elegance with practicality. The drawers can be opened with a unique carved handle, executed in a minimalist design of a subtle indentation in a circular shape, perfectly aligning with the tip of the finger, and helping it mould for an easier grab.
This vanity represents a design philosophy that values simplicity, functionality, and the intrinsic beauty of natural materials. The smooth surfaces and the rectangular look are perfect to showcase the artistry and craftsmanship of the designer brothers Uno and Östen Kristiansson. Focusing more on a quiet design, the emphasis stays on the wood and the intriguing joinery, all contributing to the elegant and modern look of this dressing table.
