1960s Walnut High Sideboard with Sculptural Brass Handles, Italy
-
Description
A refined Italian high sideboard, circa1960s, crafted in walnut with elegant proportions and exceptional detailing. The design reflects the sophisticated style of Paolo Buffa, noted for his ability to blend neoclassical inspiration with modernist clarity. The sideboard’s clean architectural frame and raised profile give it a light, airy presence while maintaining substantial storage capacity. The three front doors are distinguished by beautifully grained walnut veneers, with the central panel showcasing a striking figured pattern. Each door is fitted with large circular brass handles — a newly added reproduction of a Lucio Fontana design — whose sculptural relief detailing serves as both functional hardware and decorative focal point. The piece rests on a finely tapered walnut frame with subtle integrated stretcher detailing, underscoring the craftsmanship and balance typical of mid-century Italian design. The cabinet is presented in excellent restored condition, combining historical integrity with refreshed elegance, ready for immediate use. It is on display at the Gallery at 200 Lex at the New York Design Center.
