Description
English Jacobean Early 17th Century Oak Refectory Table of large proportions, extraordinary and rare for its H-form stretcher configuration, which enables more comfortable sitting and dining, having the stretchers in the middle and not around the base. The massive three-plank top is supported by six carved cup and cover melon-supports. The table was most likely made to be taken apart for moving and re-assembly in situ, as each part has incised marks at the joint, corresponding to one-an-other. There are numerous inscribed dates, initials and names in the tops surface which makes one guess that the table was probably for some time in an institution and subject to rather rough treatment.
Seats 12-14 people.
The table has been photographed in "as found" condition and shows wear and old restoration.
Clean-up, conservation beeswax polish will be done by our restorers at no additional charge. -
