Pair of Swedish Painted Demi-Lune Consoles, ca. 1880
-
Description
A striking pair of Swedish demi-lune consoles from circa 1880, painted in a deep, dramatic tone that lends a sense of gravity and sophistication to their neoclassical form. Each console is designed with a semi-circular top supported by four elegant tapered legs, their fronts carved with fluting and crowned with stylized square rosettes. The apron features a rhythmic pattern of carved detailing, giving texture and depth to the restrained design.
The later painted finish enhances the sculptural quality of the carving, while offering a bold contrast to the typical light tones associated with Gustavian furniture. Their scale and versatility make them suitable as statement consoles in an entryway, dining room, or salon, whether placed together for symmetry or separately to balance a space.
Timeless yet distinctive, these demi-lunes embody both the classical inspiration of Gustavian design and the adaptability that makes Swedish antiques highly sought after.
This is an antique and having been around for a long time, it will show signs of wear. Antique pieces have very much sought-after character and associated flaws. Please review photos for condition & contact us with questions! -
