Description
Art Deco Podium – Machine Age Hostess Stand or Register Stand, circa 1930s
An exceptional example of 1930s Art Deco design, restored podium or maître d stand combines the glamour of the Machine Age with the functionality of a welcoming piece for guests. Suitable as a register stand for sign-ins, a host station in a fine restaurant, or an impressive lectern in a private or professional setting, it was created to make a bold first impression.
The stand is constructed of walnut, accented with chrome and copper-plated metal. Its base features 3 chrome metal supports centered by a copper ribbed circulars metal treatment all connected to the pedestal of chrome and copper, while the writing surface gleams with its walnut top. The attached cylindrical lamp is chrome-plated with a copper decorative motif, casting light both onto the desk surface and upward through a narrow slot..
This original placard, traditionally etched with “Please Register” retains its original plate, which may be personalized or changed if desired.
All copper and chrome elements are in excellent condition, the wooden surface shows no obvious blemishes, and the electrical wiring replaced to ensure both safety and functionality. The result is a striking piece that embodies the sophistication of the Art Deco era and the streamlined, industrial elegance of the Machine Age. Whether placed in a restaurant, hotel, or private collection, this podium radiates glamour, history, and style. - More Information
