French 18th Century Louis XVI Period Demilune Console
-
Description
Dimensions: 33 ½” H x 45 ½” W x 21 ⅜” D
A dramatic French 18th century Louis XVI period demilune-console, with an exquisite giltwood base supporting its original slab of marble. The ethereal gray stone is streaked with white veining, carved by hand to a low, routed edge along the top and two “breakfront” protrusions over the legs. The table’s apron shows captivating movement in the stylized chain motif, anchored by rosettes and draped with swags. Two fluted legs taper down to an ornate stretcher crowned with a large basket of flowers where the two arches intersect, creating a third foot for stability. This masterpiece of furniture will astound in any interior. Note that the console has developed a slight lean toward the right side after three centuries and should be bracketed to the wall for extra security. There is evidence of a professional repair to the back left corner of the stone. Please view the detailed images to see more. -
