Swedish Gustavian Painted Chest of Drawers, circa 19th Century
-
Description
A refined Gustavian-style chest of drawers from Sweden, crafted in pine and painted in warm contrasting tones. The rectangular top, finished in a deep brown, rests above a body in soft warm gray, a palette that enhances the understated elegance of Gustavian design. Decorative dentil molding runs just beneath the top, adding architectural detail. The chest is arranged with four drawers in three rows: two smaller drawers above and two full-width drawers below, each front enriched with horizontal reeded carving. A single centrally placed brass pull adorns each drawer, complementing the pale surface with a touch of golden warmth. At the corners, vertical fluted carvings frame the piece, providing symmetry and classical refinement. The chest stands on tapered legs, lightening its form while maintaining solidity. Retaining its original key, this piece unites practicality with timeless style, making it an ideal addition to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
