Description
Originally sculpted in pine, Flame is a pair of andirons by Jacques Jarrige that has been cast in bronze, preserving the tactile immediacy of the artist’s hand. Their undulating, anthropomorphic forms evoke the flicker and flow of fire itself, echoing Jarrige’s enduring exploration of incarnation, movement, and transformation.
As with much of his work, Jarrige begins by carving directly into wood—removing mass in rhythmic gestures that reveal a dynamic, living form. In Flame, this approach results in silhouettes that feel at once figurative and abstract—rooted in the body, yet animated by an internal energy. Their presence in the hearth merges the elemental with the intimate, reinforcing fire’s role not just as function, but as ritual and reverie.
Flame is available in a black patina, in a finish that allows the wood grain to remain subtly visible beneath the bronze, or in a smooth, polished surface—each version emphasizing a different facet of the sculpture’s material history and expressive power. -
