Haxstun, Ottman & Co., large 6-gallon crock, produced 1867-1872
Glazed stoneware.
13 1/4 in. (34 cm) high; 13 1/2 in. (34.25 cm) diameter
Exterior impressed 'HAXSTUN, OTTMAN & CO./FORT EDWARD N.Y.'
The elaborate floral decoration, saturated cobalt glaze, and large size of this crock make it a relatively rare example of 19th century New York stoneware. The mark indicates production between 1867 and 1872, the years in which the firm was operated by Andrew K. Haxstun and William and Gilbert Ottman. -
