Description
Very large pair of antique English cut crystal candelabra by F&C Osler
English, c. 1880
Height 183.5cm / 186cm, diameter 40cm
This luxurious pair of large antique candelabra showcases exceptional craftsmanship and striking design, produced by the renowned glassmakers F. & C. Osler. Founded in 1807 in Birmingham, Osler quickly became one of the most celebrated names in decorative glass, securing commissions from noble households and royal courts across the globe.
Identical in form, each candelabrum is centred around a tall stem constructed from crystal rods, showcasing both smooth and textured finishes that reflect light with remarkable brilliance. Rising from the centre are five gracefully arched arms, each terminating in a finely faceted crystal shade. Supporting each shade is a gilt metal mount and a bobeche, adorned with strings of faceted crystal drops and beads, designed to enhance the play of light and add dazzling movement.
Crowning the upper structure is a gilt metal feature, finished with a sleek crystal spear finial. Midway down, the stem transitions into a rounded form, encircled with a decorative crystal frieze and bordered by a gilt metal ring.
Adding to the visual complexity, the lower section includes four supplementary crystal columns surrounding the central shaft. These are topped with polished glass spheres and taper into elegant swirl motifs. The entire composition is anchored on a circular base, finished with ornate gilt metal detailing and raised on gilt feet for a touch of grandeur.
Impressive in both scale and execution, these antique candelabra exemplify the fusion of artistic design and technical excellence.
