Description
Pair of Warren McArthur Style No. 1018 chaises, produced by Namco Ltd. in Australia during the early 1950s under license from the Warren McArthur Corporation. These rare post-war examples continue McArthur’s patented system of anodized aluminum tubing joined by precision compression fittings — a design innovation he pioneered in the United States in the 1930s and later adapted for Australian manufacture.
Each chaise retains its original structural integrity and correct rubber feet. The aluminum surfaces have not been re-anodized, but rather carefully cleaned, stabilized, and resealed with clear lacquer to protect the original finish while maintaining its period authenticity and gentle patina.
The current upholstery, completed approximately 10–20 years ago, remains in excellent order — a vivid blue outdoor fabric with light contrast piping that captures the optimistic tone of 1950s resort modernism. The generous seat length and angled frame exemplify McArthur’s focus on both comfort and mechanical precision, bridging the designer’s early American streamline aesthetic with this later Australian production ethos.
A documented and matched pair of Namco-manufactured McArthur chaises — elegant, functional, and increasingly scarce in such complete and well-restored condition. -
