Pit River/Hat Creek (Achumawaii-Atsugewi) basket
twined with geometric design
woven out of willow (warp) and pine root (weft)
8 1/2” diameter x 5 7/8” high

The Achumawi and Atsugewi live in Northeastern California. While they are recognized as separate tribes, their basketry cannot be distinguished apart. This basket is a fine example of their weaving and it has survived the years in excellent condition. -
