Description
This elegant Art Deco demilune console table, designed by the legendary Donald Deskey and crafted in America circa 1935, is a quintessential example of the sophisticated and modern design ethos of the Art Deco era. Deskey, a pioneer of American industrial and interior design, imbued his furniture pieces with bold geometric forms, innovative material combinations, and a sleek, streamlined aesthetic, all of which are evident in this superb console table.
The demilune form—a half-moon silhouette—imbues the table with a sense of balanced symmetry and refined curvature, making it a perfect piece for placement along a wall or in an entryway. The tabletop and base are executed in luxurious black lacquer, providing a rich, glossy surface that contrasts dramatically with the gleaming chrome accents. This striking material interplay, a hallmark of Art Deco design, enhances the table's modern and luxurious appeal.
The console’s chrome detailing is both decorative and structural, emphasizing clean lines and industrial precision. The chrome supports are composed of three bent metal bands, beautifully inset within the top and base of the table and integrated in a highly sophisticated and elegant manner. The contrast between the cool, reflective chrome and the deep, lustrous black lacquer creates a dynamic visual effect that perfectly captures the glamour and innovation of 1930s Art Deco design.
This console table is timeless in its versatility, suited for use in a variety of spaces ranging from classic Art Deco interiors to contemporary minimalist settings. Whether placed in a hallway, living room, or as an accent in a dining room, it serves as both a functional piece of furniture and an artistic statement.
As a work from Donald Deskey, known for his iconic designs such as those featured in New York’s Radio City Music Hall, this table represents the height of American Art Deco. It encapsulates Deskey's brilliance in merging avant-garde style with practicality, making it not just a piece of furniture but also a collectible work of design history. This American-made table, circa 1935, is a testament to the era’s celebration of modernity, luxury, and innovation. In Mint Restored Condition.
