Description
Each work is created using a hybrid of natural fibers, recycled paper, and resin-reinforced cartonería, a technique derived from the Mesoamerican tradition of piñata-making, which once began with clay vessels and evolved into an art form. These humble materials are reborn as tactile, emotionally charged forms, evoking the texture and weight of ground bone, memory, and earth.
The Mictlán Collection is a series of functional furniture-sculptures that celebrate Mexico’s rich cultural heritage and artisanal traditions. Bridging the ancient and the contemporary, the collection integrates natural, sustainable, and recycled materials in unexpected and poetic ways, balancing structure and softness to create expressive, sculptural forms.
At its core, the collection is rooted in Mesoamerican culture, materiality, and craftsmanship. Each piece is brought to life through close collaboration with extraordinary artisans across Mexico. Hand-sculpted and deeply symbolic, the works embody a contemporary design ethos while honoring centuries-old traditions.
Each piece in the Mictlán Collection is hand-sculpted in Mexico from reinforced cartonería and can be customized upon request. -
