This chest of drawers by Carlo De Carli for Sormani brings a quiet sense of confidence. The deep blue lacquer has a calm, velvety tone, and the mirrored glass top adds a soft, reflective glow rather than shouting for attention. The three drawers follow a steady rhythm, each marked by delicate brass knobs that feel almost like jewelry against the smooth surface.
Its proportions are intentionally light: raised on slim legs capped with brass sabots, the piece seems to hover just above the floor. You see De Carli’s sensitivity in the smallest gestures—the restrained profile of the frame, the slight recess of the top, the discreet way the drawers open to reveal clean wood interiors.
Designed in the early 1960s, when De Carli and Sormani were shaping a new direction for Italian home life, this dresser captures their shared vision: furniture that serves daily use yet brings poetry into the room. It doesn’t impose itself; it settles in, and suddenly the space feels more refined.
The chest has been expertly restored in our in-house atelier, with care taken to preserve its character. The lacquer is even and luminous, the brass shows a warm patina, and the mirrored top retains the gentle signs of age that remind you of its history.
