Description
An exceptional Late 18th century Mahogany Carlton House desk attributed to Gillows of Lancaster, the curved superstructure with pierced brass gallery, fitted with two banks of three drawers to the center, flanked by cupboard doors, the left & right with a document slot above, the reverse inlaid with oval panels, with a gilt tooled Brown leather writing surface & a Ratcheted / tilting Writing surface supported above three frieze drawers on turned gadrooned and fluted tapering legs with engraved ( Cope & Collinson ) brass caps.
Historically, Cope & Collinson were recognized as one of the finest castor makers, contributing to the architectural and decorative aspects of furniture. -
