Description
Designed to feel like a chair you sink into rather than sit on, the iconic Womb Chair is one of the most celebrated seating designs of the 20th century. Created in 1948 by Eero Saarinen for Knoll, this chair was commissioned by Florence Knoll with a simple but revolutionary request: “I want a chair that I can curl up in.” Saarinen delivered a masterpiece.
This authentic, large-size Womb Chair offers the most generous and luxurious proportions of the model, designed for true comfort. Its sculptural fiberglass shell cradles the body, while the deep seat, sloped arms, and enveloping back create a cocoon-like experience that remains unmatched more than 75 years after its debut. Whether used for reading, lounging, or quiet conversation, the Womb Chair lives up to its name—effortlessly supportive, deeply comfortable, and endlessly inviting.
Beyond comfort, the Womb Chair is a triumph of modern design. Its organic form and refined silhouette feel equally at home in a mid-century interior or a contemporary space, making it one of the most versatile and enduring icons of modernism. The large-scale version is particularly coveted, offering an elevated presence and superior comfort compared to later downsized variations.
A true design classic and an investment-grade piece, the Womb Chair is both furniture and functional sculpture—an essential addition to any serious modern collection and a timeless anchor for everyday living. -
