Description
A rare early walnut commode exhibiting wonderful intarsia workmanship with lighter woods in the form of winding vines set off against an ebonized background and carved wavy panel edges, and including inlaid animals and birds to the front and sides. Four large drawers, with the lower three large drawers beneath a topmost which hides a secretary with a hinged lid and a fold-out writing surface and multiple inlay-decorated small drawers. The whole on a plinth base with distinctive ebonized and flared feet. Italian, circa 1680.
