Description
AN EXQUISITE PAIR OF REGENCY CUT GLASS & GILT-BRONZE CANDELABRA
REF: FA1548
£8,500.00
This magnificent pair of candelabra is a striking example of Regency-era elegance, blending the luxurious opulence of finely cut crystal with the stately grandeur of gilded bronze ornamentation. Each candelabrum rises from a robust, tiered base of clear, hand-cut glass, faceted to refract light in brilliant, prismatic displays. The base narrows gracefully into a baluster stem, adorned with vertical fluting that complements the rhythmic symmetry of the overall design.
The central column gives rise to a lavish composition of twin candle branches, culminating in scolloped pans and spherical glass nozzles. Suspended from these pans are dense cascades of rounded rule prisms each precision-cut to amplify ambient candlelight in a dazzling play of sparkle and movement. These shimmering glass elements evoke the romantic ambience of 19th-century drawing rooms.
At the heart of each candelabrum is an elaborate gilt bronze mount that acts as the nexus between the glass arms. This sculpted mount is richly detailed with classical motifs, scrolling acanthus leaves and foliate flourishes, evocative of Neoclassical artistry. Rising above this gilded element is a prominent plume of fan-shaped cut crystal, adding height, visual interest, and a regal finishing touch to the piece.
Measuring with harmonious proportions, this pair is as much a feat of craftsmanship as it is a symbol of refined taste. Ideal as a statement centrepiece or as part of a formal mantel or sideboard display, these candelabra exude timeless sophistication and a reverence for decorative artistry. Whether illuminated with real candlelight or admired for their sculptural beauty in daylight, these candelabra remain a testament to the opulent decorative arts tradition of the Regency period. -
