Chinese Export Pseudo Tobacco Leaf Plate, c. 1785

$ 750
  • Description
    Chinese export porcelain pseudo tobacco leaf plate, with a scalloped edge, decorated in overglaze enamels with a single rosette (stylized cross-section of a pomegranate), leaves, flowers and a single ring.

    This elegant plate, with its airy design and harmonious palette, is one of the more restrained tobacco leaf patterns. The scattered motifs appear as though a breeze just blew them onto the plate. The turquoise band and four orange cartouche on the border lend a Japanese flavor.

    See: Pierre L. Debomy "Tobacco Leaf and Pseudo, A Tentative Inventory" (Sevres: Societe des amis du musee national de ceramique, 2013) pp. 222-223.
