Description
A finely crafted early 20th century American decorative vase by Tiffany Studios, circa 1920. This trumpet-form vase combines hand-blown Favrile glass with a patinated gilt bronze decorated holding base, exemplifying Tiffany Studios’ mastery of both glassmaking and metalwork. Favrile glass, patented by Louis Comfort Tiffany in 1894, is renowned for its iridescent finish achieved through the incorporation of metallic oxides into the molten glass, giving each piece a luminous, multi-tonal surface unique to Tiffany.
The vase features a trumpet-shaped glass top that has been acid-etched and signed, highlighting Tiffany’s signature method of surface decoration. The gilt bronze base is stamped and numbered, confirming its authenticity and linking it to the Tiffany Studios catalog.
Measuring approximately 14¾ inches high by 6¼ inches in diameter (37 × 16 cm), this vase is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs, showing only minor wear consistent with age and use. Its substantial form and striking iridescent glass make it a visually commanding piece, ideal as a centerpiece or decorative accent.
A versatile and historically significant object, this vase reflects Tiffany Studios’ innovative approach to decorative arts in the early 20th century and serves as both a conversation starter and a collectible example of American art glass. -
