Bacchanale d’Enfants (Children’s Bacchanal) Antique tapestry

Price Upon Request
  • Description
This beautifully preserved Flemish tapestry depicts a charming bacchanale of children at play, a favorite theme in Brussels workshops at the end of the 17th century. Five putti animate the scene—gathering flowers, guiding a small goat-drawn cart, and moving through a lush landscape of trees, flowers, and distant architecture. The composition reflects the influence of François Duquesnoy and Charles Le Brun, whose models shaped much of the period’s decorative art.
Richly woven in wool and silk, the tapestry is framed by a vibrant border of garlands, musical instruments, and symbols of abundance. Its colors remain strikingly fresh, and the overall condition is excellent for its age. A delightful example of late-Baroque Flemish craftsmanship and an elegant addition to any collection.
