Description
This evocative early 20th-century work depicts the Place Pigalle omnibus in Paris, capturing a lively moment of urban life at the turn of the century. Rendered in a delicately sketched composition and enhanced with gouache, the scene portrays horse-drawn transport set against the architectural rhythm of the Pigalle district, conveying both movement and atmosphere. The artist’s technique combines loose draftsmanship with confident color application, giving the work a spontaneous yet balanced presence.
The piece is attributed to Bertrand Rasmussen, with labels affixed to the reverse identifying the artist, a Norwegian-born painter active around 1890. A red wax seal remains on the back, adding historical interest and collectibility. The colors have retained notable freshness, and the overall condition is very good for its age. Presented under glass in its original circa 1900 gilded wooden baguette frame, this artwork serves as a charming document of Parisian street life in the early modern era.
This is an antique and having been around for a long time, it will show signs of wear. Antique pieces have very much sought-after character and associated flaws. Please review photos for condition & contact us with questions! -
