Pair of Art Deco Bookends Depicting Don Quixote and Sancho Panza
-
Description
A striking pair of Art Deco bookends representing Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, depicted asleep at the foot of a tree in a sculptural and highly expressive composition. Cast in metal with a rich green patina, the figures display strong modeling and finely worked details characteristic of early 20th-century decorative arts. The scene draws directly from Cervantes’ literary classic, blending narrative charm with the bold graphic language of the Art Deco period. The bookends are signed Janle, the pseudonym of renowned French sculptor Max Le Verrier, celebrated for his imaginative mythological and literary subjects. Light wear to the patina is consistent with age and enhances the overall character of the pieces. Both functional and sculptural, these bookends serve as elegant accents for a library, desk, or shelf while standing as collectible examples of French Art Deco design from the 20th century.
This is an antique and having been around for a long time, it will show signs of wear. Antique pieces have very much sought-after character and associated flaws. Please review photos for condition & contact us with questions! - More Information
