Description
Dimensions: 34 ¾” H x 52” W x 22 ¼” D
A striking Italian commode/chest of drawers from circa 1850, all hand-crafted from cedar that has taken on a deep mahogany tone which enhances the drama of the carved motif along the front. Look closely to see that the top surface is one solid plank, a remarkable feat of woodworking skill, that continues throughout this handsome case piece. The gadrooned pattern spanning the fronts of the three, wide drawers are mirror images of each other extending outward from the middle line. Inside the drawers one finds the most incredible decorative paper lining of heraldic lions and fleur-de-lis which may be a more recent addition but isn’t out of line with the style. An original lock is intact for the top drawer however no key is present. Note that the brass knobs vary slightly in their patterning but all have similar profiles to appear cohesive. Carved bracket feet elevate the case from the floor. Cleaned and polished with a French paste wax, ready for your interior. Please view the detailed images as they are an important part of the product description. -
