French 19th Century Directoire Fauteuil

A majestic French 19th century Directoire fauteuil armchair in charming patinated finish that reveals at least three layers of different colors painted over the carved wood frame. The most recent color is a pale, buttery cream, blending with a stone gray, and where those have chipped off a pastel turquoise is exposed. Currently the upholstery is a linen or linen-blend hopsack in tan, outlined by a nailhead trim. A seat cushion is removable for easy maintenance which is in worn but good condition to continue using. Small rosettes decorate the arms and junction of the legs which have fine, turned rings to accentuate their svelte profile. It appears a crack on the chair’s right arm was professionally repaired, which is almost imperceptible under the textured paint.
