Description
Thhis outstanding bronze table, “Swimmers” was created by Margaret Brassler Kane in 1945. Brassler Kane, 1909-2006, was a prolific sculptor based in New York and Connecticut. A founding member of the Sculptors Guild, Kane was one of the few women of her era to consistently exhibit professionally alongside men, breaking traditional gender expectations for artists in the 1930s and 40s. Her work is held in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Museum and she exhibited the 1939 New York World’s Fair and The Met in 1942. Her 1942 sculpture, “Air Raid” was on display in Rockefeller Center for several years.
