Description
A gorgeous and also most functional sideboard from the first quarter of the 20th century, it is executed in solid cherrywood and features these wonderful bold, exaggerated, curvy, fluted and tapering columns on either side of the credenza. These flank a pair of doors that open using original cast nickel hardware on either side to reveal a shelved interior with a single hand-dovetailed drawer above each side; in the center, a glass and nickel door opens to reveal two glass shelves. The top has a wonderful wavy border carved directly from the solid fruitwood surrounding the thick marble top. The front legs terminate in nickel sabots that match the profile of the foot. Stunningly beautiful and yet very down-to-earth.
Measurements: 68 5/8" W x 21 1/2" D x 43 1/4" H
Condition Report:
The surfaces are worn and have varying degrees of oxidized scuffs, worn chips, discolorations or just general patina; old chip and repair to back right foot; keys work but are mismatched replacements; a hole was cut in the back of the cabinet for electrical wires to come through at some point; various holes in the back where hardware was attached (probably to help support a mirror); scratches and overall wear throughout the marble top including a small chip to the underside of the front left corner and other tiny chips; all original hardware; glass shelves with tiny chips around edges (these can be easily replaced upon request). A very nice presentation. -
