Description
CARVED HARDWOOD CANE WITH STERLING SILVER OVERLAID HANDLE
In the Art Nouveau taste, circa 20th century
34 1/2" H x 4 1/8" W (handle)
A finely carved hardwood cane, the tapering shaft worked with a rhythmic undulating organic pattern, capped with a distinctive L-shaped handle of sterling silver overlaid on a contrasting handle. The silver mount displays a delicate engraved and chased foliate motif in the Art Nouveau taste. The shaft terminates in a steel ferrule. The handle is stamped STERLING.
Condition: Light wear along the shaft and to the upraised elements of the carvings; bone with striations and staining; silver tarnished with patina, but we can polish this upon request; wear to ferrule. Light curve to the shaft.
